Guggi was on the Late Late Show last Friday, I stayed in to watch it in the hotel room. I thought he did a great job and came across quite regal and impressive.

You can watch it on the RTE website, it's near the end of the stream.

Guggi's art is so amazing, sometimes it really takes me aback. I mean, the texture and coloring is phenomenal. That first one, with the burnt oranges, vermillion and the pale turquoise just jumps off the canvas... or was it wood, Caroline? Do you remember how big it was? Gavin's presence gives some type of perspective for the other, but how large was that one? I still haven't seen the one he was working on when I visited ever again, strange, it was quite large. I think I remember those smaller ones being on the floor. He hasn't used that jug in a while, nice to see it back I love what he does with its handles.

They're all on wood. He talked a bit about that in the Late Late Show interview. I think he said canvas was becoming a little boring and using wood really inspired him again and he could use the grain.

He also talked about leaving his 'mistakes' visible instead of whitewashing them. I'm paraphrasing but he said that maybe a 'mistake' isn't really a mistake.

The orange and turquoise ones were both 98x70 cm (38.6 x 27.6 inch), while the one Gavin's standing in front of is 130 x 95cm (51.2 x 37.4 inch)

The bigger ones (like this one) are 118x170cm (46.5x66.9 inch)

That catalogue Gav got me sure comes in handy ;-)

Those aren't very big, kinda medium-sized. With such a big space, I'm surprised.

Guggi's catalogues kinda annoyed me. I appreciated the simplicity of them and they were usually free even after the opening, unlike Whisker's, but the Solomon gallery offered Guggi CD inserts and other stuff, but he didn't want them. CDs would have been cool, especially for the older work.

Thanks for that link Caroline! The interview was great! If I were lucky enough to get one of those smaller , cheaper paintings Guggi spoke of , I never would have parted with it for ANY PRICE !!!!!
